  • Hey, I bought three records the other day. It was an experience, been so long:

some cheesy jazzfunk on here but some good covers (funky broadway being the most notable, I believe)

    $3 each.

  • one of 3 records (along with Oar and Heart of the Congos) where the first listening experience is burned into my brain. I remember when, where I was, what I was doing, etc.

  • are people saving money for presents?

Yeah, actually. I did go to the thrift store, though, and
found a few at least decent things, for less than $10 total:

Rinder & Lewis promo is nice, and an instant major label power pop
collection, all promos - minted up on the 20/20 1st LP, and had not
got the second one until now. The Nils LP is awesome! Had never heard
them, some great punky power pop from Canada.

The thrift also had this sealed 12" w/Meters samples:

yeah, nothing too exciting here - No MAGNUM - but I was happy
to find stuff at the thrift store, which is hit or miss at best.

  • hey rey can u reccomend me some good latin music thats fairly common.. i love this stuff but i need some knowll age dropped for sure!

been getting a lot of good albums lately. Heres a couple of the ones I've picked up recently

  • Recently stumbled on this Johnny El Bravo album myself. That song "Bambulae" has a great little piano drop in it...

In fact got a whole bunch of great Latin stuff... Too busy to post pictures now, but this was the crown jewel:

Had no idea what i was getting into until i dropped the needle, and heard this:

    http://rapidshare.com/files/74753517/Aja.mp3.html

and the album doesn't let up either.

CLAUDJA BARRY (Boogie Woogie) Dancin' Shoes

one of my FAVOURITE songs EVER as a youngun. danced (read: ran around like a chicken with its head cut off) around the apartment to it and got into a heap of trouble for knocking over and breaking a lamp.

  • I was disappointed there was no Claudja Barry - Sweet Dynamite 12" in there...an all-time Claudja favorite

Those are the only 2 I own. I was never a huge fan of his. Not to say I don't respect and appreciate his music, I just wasn't ever as into it as some other things. I was happy to find this one though, especially for cheap. It's an Impulse pressing at that, not one of those rainbow label ABC joints in an Impulse sleeve. It's a good listen, I'm glad I picked it up.

Do you tend not to like spiritual/mystical jazz a la Sun Ra and Alice Coltrane -- or you do like jazz working in that vein but don't rate his material as highly?

yeah thats the one. Great psychy album with some Jazz elements. Tom Scott plays on there and for the Shadow sample fiend in you its also the basis for that Six Day track
